Welcome to the Anesthesiology Interest Group!

The goal of the Anesthesiology Interest Group is to educate our peers about an exciting career path and promote exposure and involvement in the field of Anesthesiology.

What is Anesthesiology?

From the American Society of Anesthesiologists: “As physicians, anesthesiologists are responsible for administering anesthesia to relieve pain and for managing vital life functions, including breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure, during surgery. After surgery, they maintain the patient in a comfortable state during the recovery and are involved in the provision of critical care medicine in the intensive care unit.”

Anesthesiology Residency & Fellowship

Anesthesiology residency programs might have three year and four year programs. The 3-yr programs are for those candidates who obtain their own internship independently of the anesthesiology program. The 4-yr (Categorical) positions are for those candidates who allow the anesthesiology program to schedule them for the internship at the same institution.

Fellowship opportunities include:

  • Cardiac
  • Critical Care
  • Neuroanesthesia
  • Obstetrics
  • Pediatrics
  • Pain
  • Public Policy
  • Regional Anesthesia/Ambulatory/Orthopedic
  • Trauma Anesthesiology

Shadowing Opportunities

The Anesthesia Tech program is a great chance to gain hands-on experience in the surgical OR for current medical students. Interested students will have opportunities to be involved in pre-operative preparations, IV placement, intubation, etc.
