Welcome to the Geriatric Medicine Interest Group!

The Geriatric Medicine Interest Group’s mission is to expose medical students to the intricacies involved in caring for older populations. This is of particular importance as individuals aged 65 and older will represent nearly a quarter of the United States population by the year 2060. Geriatric patients require care that differs from younger patients, including co-morbid conditions that require multidisciplinary care, distinct nutritional needs, and varied social and economic support. As our patient pool ages, it is critical that physicians are familiar with and knowledgeable about these unique needs.

Opportunities:

-Interest group meetings will include speakers with experience in a variety of aspects of geriatric medicine who can provide clearer insight on this specialty.

– We will also be coordinating outreach opportunities to serve seniors in our local Gainesville community!

-The VA/UF Institute on Aging holds grand rounds on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 12:00-1:00 PM. Livestreaming is available through registration with Laura Pons (pons@ufl.edu).
