What is the Purpose of the Event? Since its dedication on April 6, 2002, the Thomas H. Maren Medical Student Reading Room, located in the Communicore building, has served its original purpose: a place for students to rest, relax and read non-medical books or watch videos and enjoy art and music. The annual rededication ceremony is an event composed of performances by both faculty and medical students in commemoration of not only the Maren’s contribution to the College of Medicine but also the arts in medicine.
What is the Benefit to the State, the university, and/or your organization? As a yearly event, this ceremony pays tribute to one of the significant contributing benefactors of the college of medicine. Open to the rest of the student body, this event provides a public opportunity for the students and faculty to display their enthusiasm for the fine arts and to inspire the creative process in others while simultaneously displaying the cultural and artistic diversity offered by the UF College of Medicine.
