What is the Purpose of the Event? Raise awareness about the psychiatry field. Give students the opportunity to speak and ask questions with working psychiatrists and learn about their lives and practices.

What is the Benefit to the State, the university, and/or your organization? This lunch lecture series will foster interest in the psychiatry field, as well as highlight the importance of mental health care in the service of promoting full health among our future patients. Currently, mental health is one of the least promoted sectors of our medical community, yet mental illness is vastly wide spread among the American population. In addition, stigma associated with mental health illness prevents both patients and physicians from seeking out treatment and support for themselves.

We propose that these lectures will encourage more medical students to explore the psychiatry field, benefiting even those who choose to peruse other specialties by exposing them to mental health resources and normalizing the stigma associated with mental illness.
