This will be primarily accomplished by lunch meetings with faculty members in all areas of Family Medicine, local, state, and national conferences. 2. To provide information on important issues in Family Medicine and Primary Care. This will also be accomplished primarily through lunch meetings in which experts in various fields are asked to speak to the group. 3. To serve the community by way of projects geared towards the awareness of primary care medicine and access to medical care. 4. To raise awareness about the disparity in healthcare and the uninsured both locally and nationally.

What is the Benefit to the State, the university, and/or your organization? The family medicine interest group has been quite active during the past years. Because of the increasing demand for primary care physicians in the healthcare system, it’s important for us to bring accurate information to medical students regarding this specialty. Our current lecture series is designed to demonstrate the diversity in family medicine, versatility in career choices, and highlight the need for the preventive, primary care within the family unit. In addition to this, we hope to provide information and resources for students who are interested in applying for a family medicine residency. Although the FMIG does receive external funding from the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, the majority of these funds are designated for state and national conference travel.
