Purpose of Trip: We are writing to ask the assistance of the Office of Educational Affairs in sending a group of 10 officers from the Equal Access Clinic (EAC) to the 2014 annual Society of Student Run Free Clinics (SSRFC) Conference in conjunction with the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Conference. The EAC is one of the largest student run free clinics in the country and it is our goal to spread information and ideas to other clinics. We provide essential services to our community by offering both acute and primary care to the underserved population of Alachua County. As our leadership structure is one totally run by the students, the programs that have been developed and implemented at the EAC are generated by the minds and dedication of our clinic officers.

At the conference there will be students from across the nation that participate in a variety of different clinic models, each sharing and asking questions to promote the betterment of all involved. From the programs and projects offered at the SSRFC conference, students also derive educational benefit from the experiences of their colleagues. These relationships, as well as the exposure to the mentoring environment of the conference, have not only served to educate our student officers, but have also prompted them to undertake their own research and presentation endeavors. We have a number of officers presenting their posters on original research and/or logistical triumphs performed through the unique opportunities now available at the EAC.

We hope that the benefit of the SSRFC Conference to both the UF student body as well as the community at large is clear. Without the inspiration and guidance provided by such an event, the EAC would not be where it is today. We understand that funds are limited, however we trust that you will contribute in any way possible.

Questions/Concerns
Traditionally, participants have flown to the conference, even if the location was within reasonable driving distance for convenience and to allow students to maximize their travel time by completing work. Gainesville, FL has direct flights to Atlanta, GA; the driving time is approximately 5 hours each way. I have calculated the approximate costs in this proposal for students to fly or drive. The cost of the hotel is based on two nights at the Westin Peachtree Plaza (the location of the conference). Each night is approximately $270; we estimate that we will need 3 rooms. Thank you for your consideration!
