The Graduate Student Organization (GSO) represents the students from the College of Medicine Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences (IDP). As graduate students, who spend most of their time in labs doing research, these monthly meetings are critical for keeping everyone up to date on current happenings and issues in our program.
During each monthly meeting we have present student advocates that represent all the IDP students. These advocates serve on university boards and committees and are responsible for bringing student problems anonymously to these committees so that they can be addressed. These meetings offer one such forum for communicating these problems.
A second important aspect to our monthly meetings is to keep the students in our programs connected with each other to form a sense of community. We discuss upcoming social events sponsored by GSO as well as community service events that we are planning to do in Gainesville.
