Event held by ONCIG – Oncology Interest Group on 04/17/2018:
At this meeting students gathered to learn about Dr. James Lynch’s personal journey to becoming a medical oncologist. Both the art and science of medicine were major features in this discussion. Dr. Lynch described his educational training, but emphasized the ‘hidden curriculum’ of lessons he received from each of his patients along the way. Through multiple examples of specific patient interactions he defined what is required to be a successful oncologist and gave honest insight into both the highlights and the more difficult aspects of caring for patients with cancer.
