Event held by LMSA – Latino Medical Student Association on 08/29/2018:
Medical students gathered and intently listed to Dr. Bird as she gave an overview of some key medical Spanish phrases to initiate the patient-doctor conversation and bond. The session was highly interactive, with students taking turns saying the words out loud in Spanish. The room was then split up into groups where a LMSA undergraduate volunteer acted as a Spanish speaking standardized patient that each student team conversed with to collect a full History of Present Illness. Dr. Bird listened to the mini oral presentations, and congratulated the attendees on their eagerness and commitment to establishing excellent rapport with the Spanish speaking population. Each student took home a list of the words and phrases they learned during the session, excited to continue strengthening their medical Spanish fluency.
