SNMA: Introduction to Diversity and Health Equity

Event held by SNMA – Student National Medical Association on 09/17/2018:

The first in a series of discussions highlighting the importance of health equity and diversity in healthcare with guest speaker, Dr. Donna Parker. Dr. Parker delved into many important themes and mantras that students, especially those that are members of under-served or underprivileged minority groups, should practice. These include the importance of representation in medicine which can foster beneficial physician-patient relationships, the importance of sharing when suffering, and camaraderie among peers. Through her personal story, she highlighted the importance of health equity and diversity in healthcare and how to persevere through adversity.
