Dr. De Portu, a board certified Emergency Medicine physician, as well as creator and program director of the Medical Student Ultrasound Curriculum, presented a unique look at female abdominal emergencies through the lens of ultrasound as a vital diagnostic tool, especially in ruling out the life threat of ectopic pregnancy. Ultrasound is a vital diagnostic tool in the emergency department (ED), especially in the setting of acute abdominal pain which accounts for 5-10% of all referrals to this department – making it the most common reason for a visit to the ED.
