Welcome to the Anesthesiology Committee!
The goal of the Anesthesiology Committee is to educate our peers about an exciting and versatile career path and promote exposure and involvement in the field of Anesthesiology. We will do this by having meetings and events that could include, but are not limited to:
- Resident day-in-the life Q&A sessions
- Hands-on workshops with Anesthesia faculty (IV placement, intubation, ultrasound, etc.)
- Subspecialty panel to explore different fellowship paths
- Supplemental lecture events that coincide with lectures to give an anesthesiologist’s insight into course material
- Research opportunities
- Post-match panel

What is Anesthesiology?
From the American Society of Anesthesiologists: “As physicians, anesthesiologists are responsible for administering anesthesia to relieve pain and for managing vital life functions, including breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure, during surgery. After surgery, they maintain the patient in a comfortable state during the recovery and are involved in the provision of critical care medicine in the intensive care unit.”
Anesthesiology Residency & Fellowship
Anesthesiology residency programs might have three year and four year programs. The 3-yr programs are for those candidates who obtain their own internship independently of the anesthesiology program. The 4-yr (Categorical) positions are for those candidates who allow the anesthesiology program to schedule them for the internship at the same institution.
- Fellowship opportunities include:
- Ambulatory
- Cardiac
- Critical Care
- Neuroanesthesia
- Obstetrics
- Palliative Medicine
- Pediatrics
- Pain
- Public Policy
- Regional Anesthesia/Ambulatory/Orthopedic
- Trauma
- Transplant
Shadowing Opportunities
We are working to create a direct line for medical students to shadow residents and faculty to get hands-on exposure to the field. Stay tuned for more information!
