Welcome to the Cultural Competency Committee!
The purpose of the Cultural Competency Committee provides medical students opportunities to strengthen and expand their cultural competency through our various focus branches. We plan to facilitate as many learning opportunities as possible including but not limited to clinical skills workshops to learn how to work with various population groups. We will also provide any helpful resources for medical students. Check out our branch meetings, presentations, and events!
Health Queer Alliance
HQA is a pre-professional organization at the University of Florida that is dedicated to LGBTQ+ health education and equity. We strive to (a) educate students about the medical needs of the LGBTQ+ community through lectures that align with the medical school curriculum and (b) provide inclusive care to LGBTQ+ patients through community service. The latter is supported by the Equal Access Clinic’s LGBTQ+ Night at Eastside.
Goals:
- To educate students in the health professions on the medical needs of the LGBTQ+ community
- To address health disparities experienced by LGBTQ+ patients through community service
Why:
The LGBTQ+ community faces distinct gaps in health care and health education. HQA hopes to address these disparities by educating pre-professional students about LGBTQ+ health, supporting LGBTQ+ students, and serving LGBTQ+ patients directly.
