Emergency Medicine

Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Committee!

Our goal is to connect medical students with meaningful exposure to the field of emergency medicine. We provide opportunities to engage with practicing emergency physicians and residents through educational sessions, hands-on workshops, clinical experiences, and professional networking. 

Members can participate in physician-led talks, procedural and simulation-based workshops, shadowing in the emergency department, research collaborations, and events designed to build connections within the specialty at both local and national levels. 

What is Emergency Medicine?

Emergency medicine is a fast-paced, broad-based specialty focused on the immediate evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of acute illness and injury across all patient populations. 

Emergency physicians are trained to make rapid, high-stakes clinical decisions, coordinate care in time-sensitive situations, and manage a wide range of medical and traumatic conditions in both prehospital and emergency department settings.

Emergency Medicine Residency & Fellowship

Emergency medicine residency training is typically 3-4 years, depending on the program. 

Training emphasizes acute care medicine, procedural skills, clinical decision-making under pressure, and exposure to a wide variety of patient presentations. 

Fellowship Opportunities

After residency, emergency physicians may pursue additional subspecialty training. Most emergency medicine fellowships are 1-2 years in length, though duration varies by subspecialty and program structure. Fellowship pathways include:
