Welcome to the Interventional Radiology Committee!

Mission

Our mission is to cultivate interest and understanding of Interventional Radiology (IR) among medical students by offering early exposure to this innovative and rapidly growing specialty. We aim to connect students with shadowing experiences, research opportunities, and mentorship that emphasize IR’s unique role at the intersection of diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive treatment.

We are committed to educating students on the diverse clinical applications of IR—from oncology and vascular disease to trauma and outpatient procedures—and to supporting career development through structured guidance, faculty connections, and resident mentorship.

Committee chairs are always available to answer questions and help connect members with the appropriate faculty, residents, or resources to help you explore IR more deeply.

What is the IR Committee?

Interventional Radiology is a cutting-edge specialty that uses imaging guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures that treat a wide range of conditions. Combining diagnostic acumen with procedural skill, IR is integral to modern patient care. At UF, the IR Committee provides medical students with the opportunity to learn about this dynamic field through interactions with IR professionals and interactive sessions regarding current advancements in the field. We work closely with the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the UF College of Medicine to bring you engaging learning experiences including lunch talks and panels that highlight the versatility and impact of IR.

Residency and Fellowships

Interventional Radiology is now its own residency pathway, with both Integrated IR/DR, options to specialize during a Diagnostic Radiology residency through the ESIR pathway, and Independent IR fellowship options. Each spring, we’ll host a fellow-led panel on navigating the application process, building a competitive CV, and understanding how IR differs from and overlaps with Diagnostic Radiology.
