The mission of this group is to provide additional venues to practice the skills necessary to effectively use Ultrasound. This imaging tool is used heavily in so many specialties that learning to use it early on is vital for all medical students. Our instruction in the medical school curriculum, though fantastic, is limited by time. As a procedural skill, the number one limiting factor to using US is the technician’s comfort, which is primarily derived from practice actively using the modality. USIG seeks to provide a much greater access for students to using US in a mentored environment. USIG will further try to cement skills by holding an US skills lab during the third year orientation, to act as a refresher for the skills covered throughout the first two years to the new third years who are about to enter wards and see or use US first-hand in a clinical environment. USIG will also provide an avenue for students to get training time and contact with faculty and foster meaningful connections for further training and mentorship. USIG also hopes to inspire members to represent UF at the annual AIUM Sono-Slam competition each year.
