Welcome to the Ultrasound Committee!
The mission of this group is to provide additional venues to practice the skills necessary to effectively use Ultrasound. This imaging tool is used heavily in so many specialties that learning to use it early on is vital for all medical students. Our instruction in the medical school curriculum, though fantastic, is limited by time. As a procedural skill, the number one limiting factor to using US is the technician’s comfort, which is primarily derived from practice actively using the modality. UC seeks to provide students opportunities to practice US in a mentored environment through workshops held throughout the year. UC will also provide an avenue for students to get training time and contact with faculty and foster meaningful connections for further training and mentorship. USIG also hopes to inspire members to represent UF at the annual Florida Sono Smackdown and AIUM Sono-Slam competition each year.
Why Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is the clinical tool often referred to as the “Swiss Army Knife of Medicine” due to its constantly lengthening list of uses. Just a sampling of the many specialties that utilize this skill set includes:
- Emergency Medicine
- Critical Care
- OBGYN
- Cardiology
- Primary Care
- Reproductive Endocrinology
- Fertility Medicine
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Orthopaedics
- Anesthesia
- Urology
- ENT
- Sports Medicine
- General and Subspecialty Surgery
As well as countless others. So join us in learning a skill that will benefit you throughout your medical career!
